ONE of the country’s most successful rugby league nines team SSG Roosters will disband after the Kokomos Nines (Sept 22-23) in Brisbane.
Club executives Gairo Gavu said they decided to reward the players with a trip to Brisbane to compete for the last time at the Kokomo 9s in Brisbane.
Gavu said he was relocating to Alotau for work and would be away from Port Moresby for a four-year period and this was a major reason to disband the club.
“Since the club will be disbanded, we decided to compete at one last major tournament to reward the players and officials who’ve being loyal,” Gavu said.
He said the club would also have an awards night sponsored by SSG Finance Ltd and partners.
“Original players like Junior Arova, John Horope, Chiko Mairi, Kaupa Rex, Ilave Sapea, Mikes Araua and PNG Hunter John Andy while Junior Ambi, Bland Abavu and Bernard Goma will join us from Cairns along with Presley Soto and Gary Ware.”
Franchise owner Shane Singo Gavu said he was proud to have been associated with the champion team and hoped he had done his part in developing rugby league players.
