THE Department of Justice and Attorney-General yesterday paid tribute to employee and national women’s football team co-caption Deslyn Siniu following her gold-winning performance at last month’s Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.
Siniu, a senior legal officer with the department’s legal policy and governance branch, was acknowledged for her academic and sporting careers.
“I am so proud of the teams who I have played with,” Siniu said.
“To win our fifth gold was not easy.
“But I am grateful for the young national team that we have.
“Going to school and playing football is not easy.
“It is challenging. You have to be disciplined and remain focused on what you are trying to achieve.”
Department secretary Dr Eric Kwa commended Sininu for her colourful journey.
“She’s been able to achieve a lot,” Kwa said.
“Attending the Games, continuing her studies and then performing her role as a senior lawyer takes a lot of effort.
“As a department, we want to congratulate Deslyn for leading the team and for representing our country.”
Kwa challenged the younger generation to follow the example set by Siniu. Siniu is the only member of the women’s national football team to have taken part in the last five straight Pacific Games since 2003 when women’s football was introduced into the event.
