Coffee berry borer curse

Letters

The coffee berry borer (CBB) is taking its toll on our valuable money tree.
Coffee is said to be Eastern Highlands’ gold.
As a province, we have nothing to boast about unlike other provinces which produce multiple commodities.
Out of other coffee-growing areas, parts of Asaro Valley – comprising Upper and Lower Asaro LLGs, of Daulo district, and part of Mimanallo LLG, of Goroka district – are hard hit with CBB.
We are patient and are still waiting for the Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC) and other agencies and partners to rescue us from this deadly disaster.
We are nowhere near to eradicating CBB, an unfortunate scenario.
With economic woes on our doorsteps, we are facing extreme hardship.
School fees, basic necessities, health care, transportation, communication plus others are strongly pushing us into an unimaginable and economically-awkward position.
We are offtrack, unlike fellow coffee growers from other parts of Eastern Highlands and PNG.
Can Agriculture and Livestock Minister Benny Allan and his vice-minister Henry Ame look into this?
Do something bold and beneficial?
This is extremely sensitive and serious.
