Look into Naqia

Letters

I AM a close observer of the functions of the National Agriculture Quarantine Inspection Authority (Naqia).
Because of the important nature of its functions, I am interested to see how the organisation protects the country from pests and diseases.
I have come to learn that despite the good job done by its operation and technical division, this is not so in corporate division.
There is substantial evidence of nepotism exercised in this division.
I am aware of doubtful recruitments done outside of formal external and internal advertisements.
An investigation should be carried out into this.
The payroll section is one area that needs to be examined.
New support staff who recently joined are enjoying the privilege of the Alesco payroll system while older support staffs have been overlooked. We need to remove nepotism and not tarnish the good name of Naqia.
I call on Agriculture and Livestock Minister Benny Allan to look into such unprofessional conduct and address them at his level.

  • Dear Sir
I have been trying to contact NAQIA recently to find out information as to what the regulations are regarding the carriage of animals by air within the borders of PNG. I have been unable to find a contact person, a webpage that actually works or any details of how they can be contacted. The contact numbers on their approval form for carriage of animals are out of service and one of them actually is being used by a different organisation. I find that this is highly unprofessional and in the absence of information, people will just do what ever they think is correct which may not be in accordance with regulations. If you have the correct contact details of someone in their technical division, I would appreciate you letting me know so that I can contact them. Thank you.
