A college in the nation’s capital has initiated an online management learning system to help students and teachers recover weeks of lessons while readjusting to a new academic year.
Port Moresby Business College’s teaching and administrative staff have come on board with the use of Moodle, an open source learning system which will allow students to access notes, take tests and receive notices from teachers.
This follows the resumption of operations for tertiary institutions this week.
The college’s deputy principal (academic) Carmelo Imperial said the use of online tools was to assist in social distancing when classes resume next week.
“This is what the teachers are doing now, they’re reviewing their classroom notes for students onto an interactive platform,” he said.
“This will run in parallel to their classroom lessons.”
Janet Lee, the school’s deputy principal (administration), also outlined strict instructions from the government and health authorities which is seeing most tertiary schools using this week to ensure they met those requirements.
“We have to prepare according to this instructions so with teachers resuming this week, we have to tell students to come next week after we’ve given them a timetable and what is required of them when they return,” she said.
“We intend to start with lessons in the morning and afternoon because of social distancing so we are breaking down from 40 students to 20.”
