Commission lays out focus for reaching goals

THE National Economic Fiscal Commission (NEFC) is setting its focus on the implementation of government priorities, using the medium term development goals (MTDG) as its yard stick.
NEFC chairman Hohora Suve said this in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, at the opening of a two-day forum for the seven Highlands provinces – Eastern Highlands, Chimbu, Jiwaka, Western Highlands, Enga, Southern Highlands and Hela.
Suve said K4 billion had been expended over the last 10 years, from 2009-18, on the medium term development goals priority areas with increased funding to provinces and districts.
He said Chimbu was leading followed by Central, Milne Bay, Morobe and West Sepik in the implementation of services.
“In 2019, the focus remains for regenerate and maintain consistencies and seek recurrent on service deliveries,” he said.
Suve said the Reform on Inter-Governmental Financing Agreement was making impact on provincial funding that enabled more money coming to the provinces.
He thanked the provinces for making significant contributions on services deliveries by utilising the allocated funding.
Suve challenged them to initiate new concepts and to be more innovative to reach the unreached population in remote areas.
The workshop’s theme was Looking back, going forward.
