The Judicial and Legal Services Commission has reappointed three judges of the Supreme Court and National Court.
The Judicial and Legal Services Commission chairman Alfred Manase, also the Justice
Minister and Attorney-General, announced the reappointments of Justice Ere Kariko for a 10-year term, acting Justice John Richie Bernaud Kaumi also for a 10-year term and Justice
David Cannings for another three years.
Justice Kariko had been reappointed as a judge on July 7, 2009 for a 10-year term.
Manase said Justice Cannings, reappointed on July 24, 2016, for three years, was a hard working judge, who worked the longest hours in delivering judgments was experienced.
“The commission was satisfied that he fulfilled the requirements for the re-appointment,” he said.
Manase said Justice Kaumi was reappointed as an acting judge for 12 months last December.
“However, given his outstanding performance in his acting capacity, the Commission has now appointed him as a substantive judge of the Supreme and
National Courts of Papua New Guinea for a term of 10 years,” Manase said.
“These reappointments facilitate the continuous administration and delivery of justice services to the people of Papua New Guinea.
“Justice Kaumi had performed more than satisfactorily and delivered sound judgments and does possess the required experience and was appointed on his own merits.”
