ACTING Correctional Services Commissioner Martin Balthazar has commended renovations done on five officer’s houses at Bihute Jail in Goroka, Eastern Highlands.
He expressed great satisfaction with local contractor Noru Supplies for the quality work on the five houses.
He was particularly pleased that the contractor had put ceramic tiles floor, relocated the toilet and bathroom nearer to the house and installed ceilings in each of the houses.
The contractor has gone further by initiating a K7,000 home and backyard beautification competition in which well-kept homes with the most beautiful backyards would receive household electrical appliances as prizes.
“It is a good and quality work which should extend to all houses of our officers in 2012,” Balthazar said while receiving the house keys from the contractor last Friday in Goroka.
He appealed to the officers and their families to look after the houses.
Noru Supplies managing director Partick Kavare expressed satisfaction for fulfilling the terms of the contract and the extra work he had done.
He said Noru Supplies was a local company specialising in building, maintenance and construction.
He said unlike other contractors, his company focused on delivering quality work.
Noru said during the initial scoping work in July 2011, it was found that the houses were dilapidated and unfit for human habitation.
Many tenants are overjoyed with the quality work carried out.
“Now the frogs, rats and ants are gone.
“It is now cooler to stay indoors during the day with the new ceiling,” the spouse of an officer said.
Noru urged the service and other government departments to identify and award contracts to companies that could deliver quality services.
Noru Supplies is doing the same work on five houses at Bundaira Jail in Kainantu.
