THE standing committee of the Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL) is excited about the revamped competition which is about to end its inaugural season.
Committee deputy chairman Deslyn Siniu said the WNSL was a platform to identify potential talents for the national team as they prepare to bid for World Cup qualification.
The core group of the national team are involved in the WNSL.
Siniu said she travelled to Lae to see matches in the Northern Conference and was surprised with the talents of Markham Raings, Rainy Lae, Morobe Tulip, Tusbab Laidamon and Pacific Gardens.
There is huge interest from Morobe and an increase in the number of Northern Conference teams has not been ruled out for next season.
“I am excited about the potential and talents,” former Papua New Guinea captain Siniu said.
“We firmly believe that soccer is heading in the right direction under (PNG Football Association) president John Kapi Natto in supporting women’s football.”
She commended everyone – including PNGFA, club sponsors and official WNSL communications partner bmobile – for supporting women’s football.
