FENCING is being erected around the Bumbu 13A market in Lae, after it was completely burned down on Saturday night.
The market was burned down after an armed hold-up on a PMV and the damaging of a police vehicle.
While the market closed, the 13A Market committee, with assurance from police, took the opportunity to fence the area which they started last week.
After a meeting between police and the market committee, vendors were allowed to sell their produce temporarily outside the market area yesterday, according to Lae metropolitan command’s Facebook page.
The report said the market would be temporarily closed when fencing was going up.
It is expected that the market will be open for business tomorrow as many people depend on it to support their livelihoods.
The report said police would be working closely with the market committee and the community to ensure that the market was safe for everyone.
“The go-ahead was given after the suspect apprehended yesterday was confirmed to be acting alone,” the report said.
