POLICE in Manus arrested and charged a community health worker (CHW) with rape.
Manus Police Commander Chief Insp David Yapu said the worker was attached to the aid post at Bipi Island in the Bisikani Soparibeu local level government (LLG) area.
Insp Yapu said the victim, a teenager, went to see the CHW worker, Sapak Bonyaki, 48, from Jowan Island, within the Bisikani Soparibeu LLG area, at the aid post to seek medical help for period issues.
“At the aid post, Bonyaki told the victim to lie on the floor and remove her clothes as he would want to examine her private parts.
He said Bonyaki pretended to examine the victim’s private parts and allegedly penetrated her without her consent.
“The matter was reported to police and police crime investigation division travelled to Bipi Island where they made the arrest,” Insp Yapu said.
Boyanki appeared before the Lorengau committal court and was remanded at the Lorengau Jail.
