MADANG deputy administrator Paul Amera was arrested and charged yesterday by police and later bailed for K3,000.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said Amera, 51, of Okarumba, Kainantu, Eastern Highlands, was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit crime, one count of conspiring to pervert the course of justice and one count of abuse of office.
He said two other men were also arrested on Feb 17 in relation to a bribery case in which they were allegedly told by Madang Governor Peter Yama to bribe James Yali to withdraw a court case that was in court against Yama and Yali.
Acting Supt Rubiang said the two were in court and the just-arrested man would appear in court when his files were ready.
“I want the people of Madang who have allegations against them to come forward to the police and let the police do their work and you have the courthouse to defend yourself,” he said.
He said the alleged offenders who had reports at the police station should know that they were still innocent until proven guilty by the courts.
He said he was happy with what the police officers were doing in the province.
