Consider Nurses’ Association’s plight

Letters

THE serious concerns raised by the Nurses’ Association about the provincial health authorities (PHAs) in the country should be considered and addressed.
The intent of the legislation may have been noble but its governance and operations are now the subjects of ongoing and serious criticism from within the health sector.
Politicians have also questioned the governance structure of the PHAs and their chief executive officers.
While the current budgetary allocation of the PHAs is quiet significant, the current pandemic is stretching the limited resource envelope to its limits.
The Mt Hagen General Hospital is now threatening to cut services.
Others are in very precarious conditions.
If we have created a monster that is becoming a stumbling block to effective and efficient health services, then it is incumbent upon the Government to review the enabling legislation to remove the blockages.
