Cop charged with beating wife

A 28-YEAR-OLD probationary police constable has been charged with beating his wife at her work place at the Laloki Psychiatric Hospital on Oct 19.
After reading out the charge to Melprince Yanga, from Pangia’s Noiya Village in Southern Highlands, Magistrate Ernest Wilmot remanded him and adjourned the case to Nov 28.
At about 1am on Oct 19, police responded to a complaint of disturbance at the hospital where Yanga’s wife, Dorothy Tiora, is a nurse.
Hospital security reported that Yanga was heavily intoxicated and was refused entry by the guards when he tried to enter.
He was alleged to have climbed over the hospital’s fence and broke down a locked door.
Tiora was tending to a patient when Yanga attacked her from her back.
Yanga allegedly used his belt on Tiora.
Yanga was then alleged to have grabbed a piece of wood and hit Tiora on the head. She fell hitting her head and suffered a concussion.
Tiora was taken to the Port Moresby General Hospital and placed on intensive care.
A complaint was lodged a after Tiora recovered. Yanga was taken to the Gordon police station and charged with causing grievous bodily harm.
