Police warn students to behave during holidays

POLICE in East Sepik will not hesitate to arrest and charge students involved in crime during the holidays, provincial commander Supt Albert Beli says.
Police will start their Christmas and New Year operations next month, he said.
“I do not want to see students in the province socialise with those in the village who had been causing trouble and bringing more problems to their parents and the community,” Beli said.
“I want you all to go and stay in the village and play around with the soil if you have nothing to do in town.”
Beli said both Sepik provinces were privileged to secure the K340 million European grant and young people should not waste time doing nothing in town or villages and should be involved in farming.
He said since the price of the vanilla was good, everybody should own a vanilla yard to keep them busy.
Beli said penalties involving students committing crime would be strictly monitored to make sure the young people in the province behaved during the holidays.
“I am also calling on the leaders in the villages to arrest people who are misbehaving in their communities and bring them to the police.
“I was pleased with what the people along the highway, who arrested a group of men who tried to rob vehicles along the highway last week did.
“They called the police who went and brought them to the police station and charged them.
“This is what is said about citizen’s arrest.”
Beli said village councillors should all have the contacts of their rural police station commanders and should communicate with them when arresting suspects.
