TWO Lae policemen were charged with one count each of misuse of police vehicle and abuse of office, Lae metropolitan commander Chief Superintendent Chris Kunyanban says.
“The duo had been warned earlier before they were charged,” he said. “There have been prior warnings given to them to refrain from their actions.
“Police, after its investigations, found that the two policemen were using the police vehicle on Dec 15 at 8:45pm and was later located at 9-Mile, Bulolo Highway junction.” Kunyanban said when the two policemen were located, they were found to have been under the influence of alcohol.
“We are taking action to show the public that we are not above the law,” he said.
“We must all abide by the same law.” Kunyanban said the public should have trust in police and work closely with police to ensure there was rule of law in communities.
“This should be a deterrent to other policemen and women attached to the command,” he said.
“Any properties belonging to the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary must only be used for legally.”
Kunyanban appealed to the public to monitor the actions and behaviour of policemen and women and report any abuses.
