POLICE in Port Moresby have confiscated the gun allegedly used in a fatal shooting at a restaurant in Port Moresby on Friday night.
The black Glock-19 pistol was handed over to the police by the politician (named) involved.
Police confirmed that the gun was registered to the Member of Parliament (MP).
Police Commissioner David Manning said once the police files were completed, the MP would be invited in for questioning.
Police alleged that the MP was seated at a table with another man when the deceased, Robert Jerry, 38, arrived.
The MP and the man sat on one side while Jerry, from Lagis village, Bulolo, Morobe, sat on the other.
Jerry was given K150, before the gun was allegedly discharged as the three men sat at the table.
A preliminary report on Jerry’s injuries showed that the bullet entered the right side of his neck.
He fell face down on the table.
An ambulance was called.
Jerry however was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses are helping police with their investigation.
Police took the restaurant owner to the station on Saturday.
Other diners went to the station on Sunday.
Police have been given until Wednesday to complete the file on the shooting to death of Jerry.
A crime scene reconstruction was conducted by police at the restaurant yesterday.
The motive of the shooting is yet to be established by police.
