Corrupt police officers

Letters

AS a concerned citizen and a community leader, I am very disappointed with the conduct of some police officers.
A few months back, I had a situation in my community in relation to violence against women and I lodged a complaint with the officer in charge at Gordon’s police station, in Port Moresby.
I had to pay for a police vehicle to take officers to arrest the suspect, who was taken to the station to be charged, but the arresting officer then asked me to pay him first before he could formally put the suspect under arrest. I did and the man was charged and taken to the Boroko police station for questioning. I was told that he would appear in court the next day.
I skipped work to attend the court hearing but learnt that the arresting officer had released the suspect allegedly after the suspect had paid him some money.
