Corruption and PNG

Letters

ACCORDING to Transparency International’s 2017 Corruption Perception Index ranks Papua New Guinea 135 out of 180 countries and territories assessed.
In 2016 Corruption Perception Index ranked PNG 136 out of 176 countries and territories assessed.
It shows that we are improving to become less corrupt and this is good for us, we embraced and uphold dignity of our country.
It’s my dream to live in a corruption-free country and I hope that it’s an international dream for my fellow countrypeople.
I believe it is possible to become a corruption-free country and if we become a corruption-free country every citizen will not be left out on their most needy basic services. Corruption hinders the development and progressive goal of PNG.
It is good that the government has set up some agents to punish corrupt people who breach the Constitution depending on the type of corruptactivities they are involved in.
Government is putting its efforts and resources to mitigate corruption but why does corruption still exist? We cannot solve that issue in a year; it will take a lot of time and resources.
From my experience and observations, some government agents are the main causes or the root of corruption. This department is set up to maintain law and order and to punish the law breakers, as its primary role.
You are there to show us the way forward to eliminate corruption with actions.
