Court restrains police from entering business property

THE National Court has issued an order restraining police from entering a business property in Lae.
Deputy Chief Justice Ambeng Kandakasi issued the order in response to an application filed by Money Talks Limited and its managing director Mathew Minape.
The order was made against police officer Gordan Matafimo, Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Chris Kunyanban, Lae MP John Rosso and the State.
It restrains them “from trespassing any of the properties of the (company) and Matthew Minape, and interfering with the business operations of the (company) pending the determination of the substantive proceedings”.
The order also restrained Rosso in his capacity as Lands Minister “from dealing with any of the properties (of the company and Minape) and their records (such as State leases and land titles) kept by the department”. The case returns to court on March 3. Minape alleged that his properties at Lae’s Top Town was locked down by police on Dec 13, affecting his business operations, and the business operations of his 20 tenants. He said he could not lodge a complaint with the police in Lae because they were allegedly involved in the matter.
