National

A COURT has stayed a National Executive Council’s gazettal notice to have the assets of the Telikom PNG Limited transferred to PNG Dataco Limited.
Justice David Cannings issued the order yesterday after an originating summons was filed by Nug Mamtirin, the president of the PNG Communication Workers Union, and two others.
Mamtirin filed the notice of motion in an originating summon dated July 26.
Named as defendants are the chief executive officer of Telikom PNG Limited Michael Donelly and board chairman Mahesh Patel.
The court granted the orders sought by the plaintiffs and ordered that the defendants or any other persons or institutions, including the State, its agents and variants be restrained from transferring all Telikom assets to PNG Dataco Ltd or any other firms with a view to liquidate, dissolve or to make Telikom redundant and or obsolete in the performance of its function under the Telecommunication Act 2000.
The stay order is returnable on Aug 18 for mention.
