City Pharmacy Limited Group is conducting an awareness and free screening for tuberculosis in Lae.
It said it is putting into practice its vision statement of “helping Papua New Guineans live healthier and better lives”.
Managing director Mahesh Patel told The National yesterday that City Pharmacy had always taken a leadership position in supporting such initiatives.
“Over the 30 years of existence, we have opened pharmacies across the nation to provide much-needed medical advice and services. And we will keep expanding to cover areas where this is required,” he said. “TB is not the only issue. We have malaria, HIV, various forms of cancer, diabetes and others where education, awareness and improved living conditions and better eating habits can help.”
Health promotions were carried out at City Pharmacy outlets in Port Moresby last week with World TB Day marked on Sunday. In Lae, a one-day awareness and free consultation with referrals were also conducted.
Nurse Kelly Peter, who conducted the health promotion, said TB was infectious and to end it families and the general public must work together. “Simple things like covering your cough or going for regular checks can prevent its spread.”
