Crime rate in Madang

Letters

I AM concerned with the crime rates in Madang.
Crimes are now not only committed in town but right in front of residences.
It seems parents are not bothered about what their children are doing anymore.
I noticed during the last couple of weeks in New Town that innocent individuals are being held up for no good reasons and their belongings taken from them.
Some have been hospitalised for defending themselves or even killed for whatever little valuable they have on hand.
We are talking about urban residential areas not illegal settlements.
Our Prime Minister James Marape put forward his vision to make Papua New Guinea the richest black Christian nation in the world with so much headlines of success in the news but look at the household level, educated individuals are coursing so much harm in our communities, robing and stealing from the weak.
It is unbecoming of us leaving in a community that is full of lazy young man who cannot even come up with initiatives to help each other but constantly devise unethical behaviours.
Where are the community leaders and government officials responsible for the safety and protection of communities?
Community gathering should be encouraged and police and CIS should be engaged more to do awareness in schools and communities to educate every individual to make their community safe and worthy for human habitation.
Parents do your job for bring a child into this world or you are not even worth being called a father or mother if you constantly sit down and see your children cause havoc to the community.
Awareness and constantly educating young man and woman of their actions in households will make a big difference to the country as a whole and help bring change in attitude from the household level up.
