ACTING Correctional Service commissioner Martin Balthazar says some of his senior officers are unproductive, full of complaints, disobedient and often absent from work.

He made the comments to the 124
new recruits from the Correctional Institute Service who passed out from its training college in Bomana yesterday – 26 of whom were women.

Balthasar cautioned the recruits not to fall into the trap of senior officers by being complacent, unproductive, full of complaints, disobedient and always absent from work.

He cautioned the senior officers not to mislead the recruits saying he had received reports that a drunken brawl has erupted in the training college after instructors allowed recruits to consume alcohol.

Balthasar reminded the recruits of their roles to the people and country saying the challenge was much bigger than what they expected.

"The work will be demanding. You must serve with justice, loyalty and service," he said.

"You must earn your own living as there are no free handouts these days.

"Carve out a carrier for yourselves in the Correctional Service and be a positive citizen. Reflect your prudence on the prisoners so that their rehabilitation carries your trademark which is the
Correctional Service."

Smith Sagao urged the recruits to positively apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their training.
