Customs officers must tell the truth

Letters, Normal

I REFER to the letter “Wanton abuse by public servants” (The National, June 3) by Samson Tsika.
If the Customs commissioner needs names of the officers involved, it can be supplied to him.
But it would have been better if the officers involved identified themselves and tell the truth about the incident.
The lone female passenger is not a Customs employee but a casual worker with the department.
She applied twice and, both times, failed the aptitude test administered by the Internal Revenue Commission as a prerequisite to employment with Customs.
The Customs manager in Lae should explain to the commissioner why this particular casual worker has been allowed to go on official duty trips.
