KIMBE Cutters are primed for the new Digicel Cup season despite losing a few players to other franchises, according to an official.
Franchise manager Freddie Kumai told The National last week that he was confident in their 26-man squad who were named last month.
He said it was tough for the club to retain the same team every season due to sponsorship.
But Kumai said East New Britain had an abundance of talents to fill the void.
“We don’t have enough sponsors like most teams in the competition, so it is hard to retain players with good packages,” he said.
“When other clubs offer good packages, they take them, so we can’t do much to keep them.
“But we are happy to see them play for other established clubs.
“Former Cutters centre Lynol Molpoyo joined Lae Tigers last year.
“Steven Bruno joined Rabaul Gurias.
“Apart from winning premierships, our bigger goal or responsibility is to prepare upcoming players for other Digicel Cup teams, the SP Hunters and opportunities overseas.
“So we are happy to see our players take up bigger opportunities.
“But I’m confident that our current squad will do their best in each game in the new season.”
