Police prepare to walk long distances

POLICE in Madang are preparing for the 2022 general election by doing route marches to keep them fit, says police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang.
They started the route marches last month on Wednesdays and Saturdays to be able to walk long distances during the election period.
Rubiang said Madang was mountainous and some areas were connected by roads.
The only means of reaching villages is to walk especially in Rai Coast, Middle Ramu, Usino-Bundi, Bogia, Sumkar, and parts of Madang.
Police officers and election officials have to walk distances to reach polling stations.
“Police officers therefore must be fit to walk from one place to another.
“The route march and other physical exercises carried out by police officer will prepare them for long walks.”
