THE father who revived and saved his daughter from drowning in a swimming pool in Port Moresby last February has helped launch the St John Ambulance (SJA) Pool Safety Campaign.
Samson Ete saved his two-year-old daughter’s life last Feb 10 with some basic knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
SJA chief executive officer Commissioner Matthew Cannon praised Ete for his swift reaction to perform CPR on his daughter.
“I am glad to launch the CPR pool chart standing here with Ete because a father and an off duty nurse at the pool at that time were able to give immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation,’” Cannon said.
A SJA crew arrived just a few minutes later and gave pre-hospital care before sending the girl in the ambulance to the hospital.
Ete and his wife thanked SJA for the quick response time and the pre-hospital care that was given to their daughter. Cannon, in launching the CPR pool charts, said the charts must be put up in every pool nationwide.
The chart shows how to help a person who has drowned, giving instructions on how to give CPR and call SJA.
“These are mandatory for pools worldwide and we’d like to see a legislation that makes it mandatory for such charts to be put up at every swimming pool,” Cannon said.
“The charts were designed by us here (Port Moresby). The chart instructs people how to do CPR if needed, if a child or adult is drowned in a pool.”
Cannon said the charts also had the emergency number 111.
“Anyone aged 14 and above can learn CPR at SJA,” he said.
