POLICE in Daru are investigating the fire which destroyed about K1 million worth of polypipes for the Daru town water and sanitation project last Saturday.
Daru police station commander Ricker Soiwa said a tuberculosis specialist was also assaulted.
He said the pipes were bought five years ago under a K52 million project funded by the PNG Sustainable Development Programme.
“The polypipes were left idle at the edge of the town after the project was abandoned when PNGSDP was abolished by the Government,” he said.
“So the people burnt down the polypipes to express their frustration last Saturday afternoon.
“We are still investigating the incident.”
He said a doctor in charge of the TB programme in Western and another official were assaulted at about 3am last Saturday.
