PNG is ranked 165th out of 195 of the most cyber-attack countries of the world because of internet availability issues, according to Datec PNG Ltd.
General manager for training and education Ravichandran Chandran told The National on the sidelines of the PNG Security Congress in Port Moresby yesterday that currently, Government departments and organisations were the most vulnerable.
“The private sector is at least doing something about cyber security,” he said.
“Right now, we are facing some internet availability issues.
“In this condition PNG is ranked 165th.
“If we got stable internet, this rank can move up to 100.
“We do not have a reliable internet. If we get reliable internet, then it will be moved up to 50, maybe 75.
“So right now, we can expect a lot of threats to organisations.
“We need to protect ourselves.
“We need to build capacity in the organisation for its workers.
“Develop their skills, let them know of what is going on in cyber space.”
One of the problems is not updating the antivirus software.
“Windows 7 is outdated. Everybody has to move to Windows 10,” Chandran.
“Whoever is still using Window 7 is vulnerable.”
