POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man arrested over the killing of Harold Farapo.

Acting NCD Central Assistant Police commissioner Jerry Frank said that after the suspect’s relatives and Tatana villagers expressed their concerns over his death.

Frank said the investigations would establish the truth behind allegations raised against the actions of police officers who were involved in the arrest of six suspects at Tatana last weekend.

The deceased, Sale Naime, had died while allegedly trying to escape from police.

“That is their story, but I am critical about this incident and I will confirm with the arresting officer,” Frank said.

According to police reports, Naime was the main suspect. Farapo’s body was found floating in the sea off Tatana island the previous weekend.

Naime’s relatives have refuted police statements on the cause of his death, stating that he was shot after retaliating and drowned while swimming.

They claimed he was still alive when the police apprehended him but died on the way to the Port Moresby General Hospital.
