Decision on behalf of party, workers’ union: Basil

BULOLO MP Sam Basil says his move to the Opposition was made with a “clear mind”.
“I should be regarded as the former DPM, one may ask why did I do what I did. Being the DPM is the highest – there are a lot of perks and privileges – whenever you are comfortable first of all you must think about your country,” Basil said.
“Your country must be first, many of the trucks not running, thousands of workers laid off, carpenters have packed up, surviving on gardens, businesses are closing up.
“I have been part of the Marape government, I have made this decision on behalf of the party and workers’ union.
“We must make sure we use the tax payers’ money and resources we abstracted from the country and we must use it carefully.
“Those businesses have been faithful in good and bad times.
“We have made the decision with clear mind, we are not selfish, we understand the cries of the people and we are doing the right thing.”
Basil was appointed the deputy prime minister on Oct 1, replacing Attorney-General Davis Steven.
On Friday, he effectively moved his party members (United Labour Party) to the Opposition, taking the deputy Opposition leader’s seat as parliament sat.
Opposition Leader Belden Namah said: “Marape has failed to address many issues, including the current state of economy.”
However, Marape while fronting a press conference in Parliament after it adjourned to Dec 1, said while he accepted that numbers swung the Opposition’s way, there was still a task ahead of him and the remaining members of the Government.
“PNG is seeing the ugly head of politics again and I am surrounded by leaders who are confident that we will stand together till next year and 2022,”he said.
“I urge the people of this country not to be caught up in the hype of what is happening.
“We will resolve it in the manner that is resolved the democratic way.”

  • The man who claimed to said Pangu save lo rot while under the umbrella of Pangu Pati and lead the very prominent political party in the history of png politics and dismantle it totally for power hungry motives and betrayed his team members who are very intelligent..later form United Labour Party, join the current government and held the top post as DPM again see some little opportunities and wants to take over PM post but 10 times you will never success….png people are with this current government and wants to reclaim all their natural resources taken away by greedy foreign dogs for some good years from now..

  • Sorry Sam, didn’t we hear that from you before? We ask if you are doing it for us, your people. It clearly doesn’t look like it. Where are you thinking of going next with all your running to and within the political circle if a new government is installed? We hope you don’t fall down short in your tracks by your own doing. And don’t claim to represent us when you clearly seem to have other reasons. Those of us who sweat every day just to survive deserved respect and we don’t expect others, let alone politicians to use our name for their own gain.

  • Here is the Truth be Told:
    Based on my Observation:
    Mark My Words:
For the next 50-100 years if the Lord Tarries…
Prime Minister em Nambis Man Bai mi inap kisim (ol gat malomalo tingting).
Sam Basil, Yu laik kisim but em Bai hard, Bai u sotwin yet.
Prime Minister em Bai stap wantaim ol Upper Highlands.
Nambis Politicians are Upper Highlanders Brief case carriers.
    Prove me wrong.

  • You are a clown and a disgrace to your electorate.
Power hungry na lukim rot blo eletorate blo u? At least ol Highlands MPs kam in lo 1-2 terms has something to show for their people unlike this cheap MP! Faul nambaut na administration blo u tu sleep kirap lo Lae city stap.

  • Look here…the grasshopper politician speaks. Good to see he speaks of perks and privileges because that’s what he is after. What an a.hole. he has no balls, no brain, no backbone. Bulolo people must vote him out.

  • Talk like an intelligent with no principles. What a disgrace. Nothing happened in your district so what are you going to now?
    Tell your district.

  • How many employment jobs have you created? Let alone your District speak for itself. People are still struggling to make ends meet before and now, so what have you to offer. All they know is that for this short period of sacrifices, a greater good is coming when they can take full ownershhip of their resources. You guys are making noise because some coporate cronies of yours are putting money into your pockets to make you sing like complete lunatics. Its is true that with this transition to take back PNG, many shortsighted MPs will start dancing at the sight of the economy, only the wise will understand whats going on and will stick with Marape through thick & thin. The majority of people are behind you PMJM!

  • SB is a disgrace to his people. We thought he was straight shooter but look at him now.. The biggest Yoyo and Hopper, nogat credentials worthy of a leader.

  • Umu

You said “Nambis politicians are upper highlanders brief case carriers”. That’s an insult, we’ll see what happens when the vote of no confidence takes place!!
