The Kerema District Court has transferred an assault case involving Gulf deputy governor Charles Maiu to Waigani, in Port Moresby.
Maiu is charged with assaulting a State witness.
Magistrate Okaiva Oveka transferred the case to Port Moresby after finding the accused had not been cooperating with police investigations.
He is alleged to have assaulted State witness Timothy Hearo, the Akeparu ward councillor, in Gulf.
Maiu had allegedly assaulted him for laying complaints of misappropriation, stealing and false pretence and official corruption.
The alleged assault was in breach to Maiu’s bail conditions.
Hearo had complained to police that vehicles bought by the Gulf government for the Akeparu, Ahia and Kauri wards were misused by Maiu.
That case will be heard on March 29.
