Diocese launches facilities to improve communication

THE Catholic Diocese in Lae witnessed the opening and blessing of its K2.5 million chancery and Catholic Radio FM103.7 on Saturday.
The radio equipment cost K600,000.
Diocese Bishop Rozario Menezes said half the funding for the building and radio equipment came from outside the country, the rest was raised locally.
“The chancery will accommodate all the offices of the diocese, including health, education, the office of the bishop, administration and other sectoral offices and it is also the headquarters of the diocese in the province,” Menezes said.
He said this was the main office that would maintain coordination and communication throughout the province and with other dioceses in the country.
He said as the World Communication Day fell on Sunday, the celebration of the milestone achieved by the diocese was significant on the day.
“Communication is very important in all aspects in our day to day lives and as a medium of development, it is essential to relate information from one end to the other,” he said.
“Papua New Guinea now has social media which many people are using, especially Facebook, Twitter and other forms to communicate so we are developed in this sense.”
Menezes said the radio station would improve lives people’s lives.
