Taiwanese team in Kokopo on medical tour

A MOBILE medical team from Taiwan was welcomed on arrival in Kokopo, East New Britain, on Sunday.
Managing director of Tropicana Ltd Sandra Lau and acting chief executive of ENB health authority Dr Ako Yap welcomed the team at the Tokua Airport.
The team arrived at Nonga Hospital yesterday and will be doing a medical tour as well as in-house training for the Nonga and Vunapope hospitals.
They are expected to stay in the province for a week.
The seven-member team comprises of a neurosurgeon, anaesthesiologist, a general surgeon, one nurse anaesthetists, one operating room nurse, a dietician and administrator to conduct medical service clinical training on different medical topics.
The signing of MOU between the Nonga and Changhua Christian Hospital in Taiwan was done yesterday at the Nonga Hospital.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the hospital staff, ENB health authority board members as well the medical team from Changhua Hospital.
During the signing of Mou, team leader Dr Charles Fang said this had followed an agreement between both hospitals since 2017.
Fang said they first visited Nonga in Oct 2016 and this visit was the sixth.
He said under this partnership programme, Nonga had sent at least 10 staff to Taiwan for short-term medical training.
On behalf of the ENB health authority, board deputy chairman Levi Mano welcomed the team to Nonga. Levi, who is also the deputy provincial administrator, told the team that ENB was looking forward to working closely with them.
