PEOPLE living with disability (PLWD) in West New Britain have been provided with nine wheel chairs and a vehicle.

WNB Governor Sasindran Muthuvel presented the wheel chairs while deputy administrator Leo Brown presented a new 10 seater vehicle to them.

Also during the presentation, Muthuvel received a full list of PLWD in the province and made a commitment to buy more wheel chairs for them.

He also pledged to include the Callan services in the 2014 provincial budget.

The governor added that the community should take social responsibility for those living with disabilities.

Eunice Ponaun, 17, from New Ireland, who suffers from a hearing disorder, stole the hearts of many during her presentation in sign language telling them the difficulties and hardship she faced while going to school with other normal children.

Despite the challenges she faced, Ponaun’s eagerness for learning has won her a chance to be the assistant special educator, teaching at Callan Service.

She appealed to people not to see their disability but their ability to do the same things like any other normal person and to respect them as “we are all created in the image of God.”

The presentation was also witnessed by other PLWDs and they were given a chance to register new cases for disabled people living in the province.

Total number of new registered cases is yet to be confirmed once the statistics are finalised by Callan Services.

Callan Services has been established all over the nation except for Gulf and Popondetta and the most recent centre is the National Capital District branch.
