THE Imbonggu electorate in Southern Highlands has appointed its district procurement committee (DPC) so it can award contracts or projects of up to K2.5 million.
The Imbonggu DPC will represent the national procurement commission in awarding contracts from its district services improvement programme (DSIP) funds to build roads, bridges and other projects in the electorate.
Mendi Magistrate Vincent Eralia swore in the DPC at the Walume district office last Saturday.
The committee consists of the following members; chief executive officer Pius Puk, district finance manager Tobias Wira, Bruce Kamuge, Kelma Pora and Julie Keleli.
According to NPC chairman Kenneth Thomson, this was a big jump because the district was now given the power to approve contracts valued up to K2.5 million, previously, it was only for K500,000.
“As we can see, about 88 per cent of the population are back in the villages or districts and they need better roads, bridges or infrastructure developments,” he said.
