Do not interfere with exam papers

Letters

The letter ‘Minimise errors in exam papers’ by Sly Effa (The National, Sept 30) is spot on.
There is a very strict examination writing process.
Writers go in pairs to write one paper. It is a mandatory requirement for the final drafts to be cross checked and solutions provided for each and every question.
Despite that, there were obvious errors in the national examination papers last year.
We learnt from the officers of the Measurement Services Branch (MSB) during the marking week, that after the exam items had been written by lecturers earlier in the year, the first assistant secretary and a couple of senior MSB officers changed the order of some questions in order to insert certain security features.
It was during that process that unfortunately some errors and omissions were introduced.
Going forward, maybe it is wise for the MSB officers not to interfere with any final examination paper.
