Doctor donates book to centre

 Angau Memorial Hospital radio oncologist Dr Andrea Niblett has helped a local man with his early learning centre by donating books.

Andrea donated a boxful of children’s reading books to Joe Khukz .

Khukz is from Chimbu and married to Christine Khukz from Tami Island. Both have been running an early learning centre on the island for almost two years.

“Malasiga is an island with a very big population,” Khukz said.

“I have a total of 30 students are in my class”.

Khukz said he had a teaching background and set up Phonix Elementary Early Learning Centre on the island.

“Most of these children are at home and only a few may learn to read and write. I am providing an opportunity for thesechildren to atleast have basic reading and writing skills,” he said.

Khukz obtaining resources such as reading and teaching material for the children was difficult.

Niblett said: “Khukz has a noble intention and idea and I believe in children learning to read and write basicEnglishat early ages and so I am donating books.

The books come from New Farm in Queensland, Australia.
