Duty on Apec cars

Letters

INTERESTING to see the Finance Secretary clarifying that all vehicles bought for Apec then sold after the leader’s summit will become dutiable in the purchaser’s hands.
So the question is, why bother buying any of the Apec vehicles?
You can buy the same vehicles pretty much off a normal PNG dealer for the same price, and brand new.
As for the Maseratis, if you add the price, plus the airfreight – plus now the duty – you can buy one cheaper overseas if that was your intention.
I would say the Government will end up with a bunch of cars no one is prepared to pay the higher prices for – because of the duty.
So in the end it will be money wasted.
The next question is, what happens to the cars then?
