Oil Search and Hela

Letters

The governor of Hela is spot-on with his queries regarding Oil Search Limited’s use and acquittal of tax credit scheme funds for Hela.
The scheme was set up by the government in 1994 to address infrastructural challenges in the project areas.
Lately, Oil Search has been spending much money in Port Moresby to upgrade infrastructures like the refurbishment of Manasupe Haus, and the construction of the national football stadium and APEC Haus.
If what the good Hela governor is saying about the lack of major infrastructural projects undertaken by OSL in Hela is correct, surely there must be some explanation due to the people of Hela from Oil Search managing director Peter Bottoen, Tari Pori MP and Minister for Finance and Rural Development James Marape and Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
The people of Hela have suffered enough and they need to be respected for once instead of being used, lied to and robbed by every man and his dog in this country.
Good on you, governor.
You are fighting for justice and equity and for what rightfully belongs to your people.
