Eagles,Koboni to clash

PORT Moresby Australian Football League (POMAFL) president Douglas Lai is expecting more quality and entertaining games in round two following a successful preseason and competitive round one matches last week.
Matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday at the Colts Oval in Boroko.
West Eagles will face Concept Koboni in the first match of the senior men’s division while Alavana Swans take on Gerehu Magpies in the main game on Saturday afternoon.
In Sunday’s senior men’s matches, the University Tigers will face Bomana Cats followed by Lamana Dockers and Gereka Bombers match which would complete the round.
“The 2024 Moni Plus POMAFL season has eight men’s teams and five women’s teams that are competing,” Lai said.
“It was a great start to the season last weekend; the teams had a great hit-out during the preseason matches so it was just all systems go in the first round last week.
“Early signs are West Eagles, Gerehu Magpies and Gereka Bombers. These teams will be team to beat this season and it would be interesting to see how they perform going forward in the season.”
After last week’s matches, the Magpies are leading the eight-team competition ladder based on their percentage.
Eagles, Dockers and Bombers are also in the top-four after they all recorded wins in round one.
In the men’s reserve grade, the Dockers are leading the ladder followed by Bombers, Magpies and Tigers in the top-four.
In the women’s division, Magpies are on top of the five-team competition ladder followed by Koboni, Eagles, Bombers and Dockers.
