Eastern Highlands fails schools test

Letters

I refer to the report ‘NCD schools top national exams’ released by the Education Measurement Unit and published in The National last Wednesday.
As an Eastern Highlander, I scanned carefully through the report with curiosity to see if any of the EHP schools had their names listed as one of the top 20 schools in the country.
First with grade 10s and then grade 12s.
And you know how many schools from the EHP were listed?
Surprisingly, only one.
It was Goroka Secondary for grade 12s and it was ranked 13th.
And I want the principals and teachers of all the schools in EHP to look at their results nationally.
This is a serious matter for the parents and the students who take the teachers and school management to task and ask why their school names were not in the top 20 in the country?
Were the teachers committed to their classroom tasks, or where were they? Why is your school not in the top 20?
Shame on you teachers and principals. Have you taught your students well in 2019?
I do not think so.
I usually check the list every year to see who is selected to study where and from which schools in EHP, but sadly many of our children will miss out to other provinces in the 2019 selections for further studies.
So I challenge you all teachers, principals and board of governors of the schools in Eastern Highlands Province.
Let us see if your school’s name is in the top 20 in the country next year.
Finally, I commend AS Arulappan Packiam for publishing the report.
Will you remember to publish it again next year so I may see how these EHP schools fare?
