Ecuadorians struggle to talk with teammates

LAE City coach Peter Gunemba says language was a barrier for his two Ecuadorian imports which affected their debut performances for the club but they had to work something out before the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League.
Gunemba said this after his side’s 3-2 win over Bougainville on Saturday.
He said the pair struggled to communicate with teammates in the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League round six clash in Port Moresby and it was an issue that needed to be sorted out before the side travelled to Vanuatu for the Group B fixtures.
He said the players trained well during the week but that was because they had translators to help.
Gunemba said midfielder Abdias Aguirre and winger Gustine Iccaza were quality players and he was confident his coaching staff would be able to rectify the situation heading into the weekend’s round seven clash with Star Mountain.
“They are good players but when we want to communicate with them on field on where and how to position themselves it’s difficult,” Gunemba said. “But as we go we will get better, I am confident they will quickly understand our style of play.
“In the general play they are very good, but to blend in with our way of play is going to take time because they play a different style in Ecuador.
“We are working on that for this week. We cannot follow their style of football because if we do that we will struggle.
“We’ll try our best to get them understand our game.”
The five-time NSL champions are pooled with hosts and Vanuatu champions Malampa Revivors, Solomon Islands’ Henderson Eels and Lautoka of Fiji.
