Passam commends team

BOUGAINVILLE FC coach David Passam has commended his side for an outstanding first-half against Lae City during Saturday’s round six fixture of the National Soccer League.
Passam said a commanding first half performance was key in their preparations, however, they dropped their guard for an instant in injury time and paid the price.
He said a classy outfit like City had to be watched at all times and that lack of urgency had cost them the match.
“We played well with our structure and defensively, which we did in the entire first half,” he said. “It was pleasing coming out at halftime leading by a goal.
“I was happy about how we went but in the second half, we let Lae City pin us in our own half for a very long period that resulted in their first goal.
“It was something we didn’t handle well and we would have liked to play in their half to release the pressure which we didn’t and paid the price for that.”
Despite the loss Passam praised the efforts of his men in delivering a worthy challenge to City.
“It was a good team effort, in our defence,” he said. “We managed to put them out in the first half, it opened up a little later but in our second half we drifted off a little.”
Passam said the team would return to the drawing board this weekend.
