Electronic development ‘same as China’

Papua New Guinea is in the same state China was 20 years ago in terms of electronic development, NiuLink PNG Ltd general manager Andy Ren says.
Ren said the trend of electronic usage in the country, shifting from a function phone to smart phone, was the same trend China experienced two decades ago.
He said his team that analysed the market in PNG found out that where PNG is now was where China was around 20 years ago.
“Because most of PNG people are still using the function phone, not the smart phone, according to the data.”
Ren said around 70 people to one use the function phone.
He said it took only two years for China to shift from the function phone to smart phones.
Ren said the company would open an office at the Vision City Mega mall on Saturday and would have electronic products such as phones, laptops and security solutions products such as CCTV, surveillance products and electric fencing.
“The shop will be managed by Chinese nationals, including an expert in laptop and iPhone maintenance and another for the installation of CCTV, home surveillance and electric fencing and finger print locks,” he said.
“There will also be six nationals working in the shop as well.”
