POLICE in Kokopo, East New Britain, have arrested and charged a man with misappropriation and stealing more than K37,000 from his employer.
According police reports, the alleged offence was committed between March 1 and April 1, 2018 and between last March 8 and 20 at the Telikom PNG Kokopo branch.
ENB police commander Snr Insp Joseph Tabali told The National yesterday the matter was reported to police on April 15, 2019, at the fraud office at Ralum police headquarters in Kokopo by Telikom PNG Ltd.
Snr Insp Tabali said the offender, Amos Sini, 37, from Mortlock Island in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, was employed as a senior inventory officer at Telikom PNG Kokopo branch.
He added that Sini admitted to committing the alleged offence and charged with applying with dishonesty and three counts of stealing from employer last Friday.
Sini is out on K3,000 police bail and will appear before the Kokopo committal court next week.
Police alleged that Sini stole K37,612 belonging to Telikom PNG Ltd by stealing 250 pieces of K100 Telikom prepaid cards worth more than K25,000 and K12,612 from customers doing credit top-ups.
“The prepaid cards were then sold to the resellers in Rabaul through fraudulent activity,” Snr Insp Tabali said.
