ENB gets rain as PNG dries up

EAST New Britain (ENB) is not really affected by the dry spell currently scorching parts of the country, says National Weather Services director Samuel Maiha, pictured.
Maiha clarified this as the Kokopo and Rabaul districts and parts of Gazelle were experiencing higher temperatures than usual and drier conditions over the last month.
Residents using tank and wells as their water sources have to look for water elsewhere or start rationing.
“East New Britain is okay,” Maiha said.
“They have been receiving some rainfall. It’s not as bad as some other provinces. They received some rainfall in early December. They receive rainfall in October and November and more rainfall in September.”
Maiha said the province should expect some more rain in the coming months.
The director had last week said that the Southern-most parts of the country like Western, Gulf, National Capital District, Central and Milne Bay were the worst affected areas.
Maiha said these provinces were receiving 10 per cent of the rainfall than usual while other provinces were receiving between 20 and 70 per cent.
People living in the inland Gazelle (Baining area) and the inland Pomio areas are getting much rain a lot of rainfall with coastal areas of the province.
“ENB is not really affected by the dry season. It is among other provinces that are receiving sufficient rainfall,” Maiha said.
