THE Enga Mioks will consider players from Enga teams in the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup (CCIC) before looking at players from other competitions outside the province, a club official says.
Franchise manager Sam Koi, told The National that the club would host a trial (green v yellow) match for players picked from Enga sides.
“We have our preseason training coming up so we are working to put the squad together,” he said
“The selection will start back in Enga with our green versus yellow match and then we will move to other centres and get some more players,” Koi said.
Koi said the list for the Mioks train-on squad would be put out next week.
He said the core players of the club in the two previous seasons would join the rest of the players when the training started.
He said the club was affected by the death of coach Timothy Lepa last year and they were now focused on having a good season under new coach Roger Laka. Koi said late Lepa was an integral part of the club.
“Timothy left a huge gap to fill,” he said.
“Timothy was an important member of the club and his passing greatly affected our season last year.
“But Roger should be able to help us get back to our usual high standard.” Koi said Laka had a lot of experience as a player and manager and had also been part of the Hunters for two seasons, and that would benefit the Mioks.
Koi confirmed that there were no plans yet for the Mioks to re-locate to another provinces in the country.
He said the team would remain in Enga for the 2020 season.
