PAPUA New Guinea Under-21 train on squad member Genevieve Ume’s accuracy under the hoop saw NBC beat PNG Power 32-11 in the final round of the Public Servants Netball Association premier division at the Rita Flynn Indoor Complex at Bisini, Port Moresby, on Saturday.
Ume a regular defender in the Port Moresby Netball Association competition took on the role of shooter and unearthed a deadly aim scoring 30 goals in the win.
NBC raced to a 20-4 lead by halftime and that practically was the game. Ume had 19 in the first half over a disjointed opposition.
NBC mid-courters Kila Vela, Rachael Kida and Maimu Nou set a pace that Power could not keep up with and it showed on the scoreboard.
PNG Powers mid-court provided little resistance as Geua Charlie, Leanne Laka and Sonia Kusuat were out-played by a slick NBC side.
On the defensive end Power shooters Lua Pinia and Tamara Knight were thwarted by the effective Sonia Sawariba and Keleni Ipari.
NBC veteran Lilian Yaruso said having a full strength squad back showed what the team was capable of and this would ensure they were competitive heading into to the finals.
“We got our game plan right with the mid-court knowing what to do, everything worked out,” she said.
In the other premier grade match, Finance beat Works 25-19.
PNSA president Maria Laka said the race for the top four was sewn up and the standings would be confirmed this week and released to the teams.
The semifinals take place on Saturday.
